Arts & Music
The Art Program
All students at Cardinal Shehan Catholic School participate in a well-rounded Art Program that fosters creativity and artistic expression. Pre-K and Kindergarten students engage in art activities within their classrooms under the guidance of their homeroom teachers. Students in grades 1-8 explore a variety of artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. They also learn about influential artists and different art styles, helping them develop an appreciation for the arts. The program encourages students to experiment with materials, refine their skills, and express themselves creatively. Through hands-on projects, they build confidence and critical thinking skills that extend beyond the classroom.
The Music Program
Students in grades Pre-K through 8 participate in weekly music classes that engage them in active learning and movement. Following the Kodály music education method, students develop their musical skills through singing, solfege, and pitch matching. They explore the rich history of music, from the Baroque and Classical periods to the Modern era, gaining an appreciation for various styles and composers. Hands-on experiences with Orff instruments, bucket drumming, and string instruments enhance their understanding of rhythm and melody. The program also emphasizes Liturgical music, allowing students to express their Catholic faith through song. Students have opportunities to share their musical talents by participating in school Masses and other performances.
